The one that started it all!
Our first Disney Date night was Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement. This also happens to be my favorite movie. Full stop. I know you’re currently asking yourself, “Why in the world is that your favorite movie, Kelsey?” And that’s a fair question. It seems a little out of left field, and sequels always get a bad reputation (a point which I will debate in another post).
Princess Diaries 2 has everything:
-It stars the Queen of the Universe: Julie Andrews
-AND she SINGS with Raven!!!
-It was written by Shonda Rhimes. Yeah, THE Shonda Rhimes.
-Anne Hathaway is brilliant, and her hair is just impeccable in this film
-Chris Pine (one of the two best “Chris’s”) plays the love interest
-Mattress Surfing
-There is a Panera Bread in the middle of Genovia
-Joe has that amazing scene where he threatens the villain of the film:
Joe:
[pause] If you hurt my girl, you will answer directly to me, and whatever crimes I commit against you; remember, I have diplomatic immunity in 46 countries, including Puerto Rico.
Viscount Mabrey:
Sir, you will find that the word “fear” is not in my vocabulary!
Joe:
Perhaps… but it’s in your eyes.
-And finally, it has discount Lin Manuel Miranda playing a palace guard and dancing in the hallway.
For this meal, I knew we had to have something with “Genovian” pears. So I made a salad with grilled pears tossed in honey, avocado, goat cheese, and poppy seed dressing all on top of a spinach mix. We also had grilled chicken and sweet potato fries, just because I like them. For dessert, we had ice cream out of the carton, because that’s what Mia has when she’s having a bad day in the movie.
This movie continues to live up to my expectations. I love it and I stand by it.
